Inside Your Ear: Lebanon Audiologist Brings Hearing Health to Life
May 05, 2025LEBANON, Ohio — Most people have never seen inside their own ear — but for visitors to Hearing Connections Audiology, that’s often the first step toward better hearing and renewed confidence.
In a recent behind-the-scenes visit, we met Dr. Verbsky, an audiologist with more than six years of private practice experience. We explored everything from ear anatomy to high-tech diagnostic tools, busting myths and highlighting lesser-known conditions along the way.
Dr. Verbsky, who has practiced audiology for many years and opened her Lebanon location one year ago, helps patients of all ages with conditions ranging from hearing loss to tinnitus, auditory processing disorders, hyperacusis and more. She often treats musicians and those exposed to loud environments, offering a blend of diagnostics and therapy for long-term improvement.
“Sometimes people come in saying they can’t hear well in noise, but their hearing thresholds are actually fine,” Verbsky explained. “There are still things we can do.”
A Close Look at the Ear
Using a digital otoscope, Verbsky gave me — and livestream viewers — a real-time look inside my ear canal.
“You can see the eardrum and a healthy cone of light,” she said. “That yellow wax on the outer ridge? That’s a good sign. It means your ear is self-cleaning the way it should.”
She also warned against using cotton swabs, which can push wax deeper into the ear and disrupt the ear's natural "conveyor belt" for wax removal. “That’s when you come see me,” she joked.
Hearing Is Connection
While showcasing advanced tools like tympanometry to assess middle ear health, Verbsky emphasized the emotional side of her work.
“Hearing loss can isolate people,” she said. “Helen Keller once said, ‘Blindness separates you from things; hearing loss separates you from people.’ My goal is to restore those connections.”
From diagnostics to hearing aids to tinnitus therapy, Verbsky’s practice offers a comprehensive range of services. She also provides virtual appointments, making help accessible even from home.
“If you or someone you know is struggling with hearing, it’s worth reaching out,” she said.
